WTSB : Together

6 Mar

words to shoot by is back! we’re on our second word of the year: together. i shot these in a beautiful old church in Beacon Hill on friday night a couple weeks ago. we joined a couple friends at that church for a concert featuring an experimental cello quartet and a couple other string ensambles. i had only brought my camera on a whim, since i rarely shoot at night, but i’m lucky i did.

the road to bar harbor

17 Jan

On our way up to bar harbor we decided to the take the slow winding road up the coast, stopping in as many tiny fishing towns as we could. We watched the sunrise over the Rockland harbor then meandered up to Camden, Castine and Belfast. Most of these shots are from Belfast.

WTSB : thankful

20 Nov

the latest words to shoot by is up! our word was thankful. i have much to be thankful for but the thing that i most savor this time of year is a feast with friends. we shared a mid-afternoon nosh with our good friends at a restaurant is called eventide oyster company in portland, maine. the food, drinks, and late afternoon sunlight at eventide are spectacular. the fried oyster bun (second to last shot) was my favorite!

point judith RI

13 Nov

yesterday’s warm weather got me thinking about an late summer trip we took to point judith RI. the weather was just like yesterdays, warm & breezy. we were looking to cruise the coast and maybe stop into the matunuck oyster bar. the bar was jammed when we drove up so we decided to find out seasfood fix down the road a bit. we stumbled upon what i believe to be the best fried fish shack in new england….champlin’s. they had out of this world clam cakes and served their fried fish with little red potatoes rather than the standard french fries. i wandered the docks below the balcony, snapped these pics, as eric waited on our food.

cranberry bog 35mm

13 Nov

so i think i figured out my fuzzy photo issue, and perfect timing because i adore how this series of 35mm shots turned out from the cranberry bogs in carver. i feel successful in searching out the textures and colors of fall, that aren’t bright red leaves or a pile of pumpkins. don’t get me wrong i love those things too, but i wanted the moodier side of the season that’s lesser seen.

WTSB : Water

24 Sep

and a few outtakes….

the latest Words to Shoot By it up! This round our word was WATER, and we also had an open call for entries so the post at WTSB is jam-packed with great photos! I shot my images at Sandy Neck Beach on Cape Cod. The water was surprisingly warm that day. Through the shallow tide i waded out and watched the patterns the sun refracted on the sand through the water. there were quiet a few people out in the water near me and in the last shot you can see someone parked their cane on the beach while they took a dip. i love it.

brush fire

7 Sep

well not really, but the grass is fire-red thanks to the x-pro. what a sweet surprise at the end of the roll.

green, gold, & teal

21 Aug

Fuji Velvia ,Cross-processed.  Long Point Beach &  Aquinnah Cliffs, Martha’s Vineyard.

I wasn’t quite sure i loved these first 35mm x-pro rolls, but change keeps you inspired right? being a little uncomfortable moves your work along i think. so needless to say they have really grown on me, particularly the teal/green/gold color palette.

(hat tip to old school photo lab for suggesting to cross these!)

wtsb : FUN!

15 Aug

the latest words to shoot by is up! our word was fun. i shot my images in Falmouth on Cape Cod during a relaxed beach weekend. pims cup, lawn games, dinner outside, friends…..that’s summer fun to me!

27 Jul

as if the vineyard needed to endear itself more to eric and i, she gave us one heck of a light show…erie dusk twilight, a double rainbow illuminated by lightning between its arches (no kidding!), and a brilliant sunset!
