It seemed a bit too touristy to me at first, but look at his face… how could I deny that (& the goofy bib!). Lobsters at the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound was indeed a highlight of the Bar Harbor trip.

WTSB : thankful

20 Nov

the latest words to shoot by is up! our word was thankful. i have much to be thankful for but the thing that i most savor this time of year is a feast with friends. we shared a mid-afternoon nosh with our good friends at a restaurant is called eventide oyster company in portland, maine. the food, drinks, and late afternoon sunlight at eventide are spectacular. the fried oyster bun (second to last shot) was my favorite!

point judith RI

13 Nov

yesterday’s warm weather got me thinking about an late summer trip we took to point judith RI. the weather was just like yesterdays, warm & breezy. we were looking to cruise the coast and maybe stop into the matunuck oyster bar. the bar was jammed when we drove up so we decided to find out seasfood fix down the road a bit. we stumbled upon what i believe to be the best fried fish shack in new england….champlin’s. they had out of this world clam cakes and served their fried fish with little red potatoes rather than the standard french fries. i wandered the docks below the balcony, snapped these pics, as eric waited on our food.

captain frosty’s

28 Sep

following our lounge session on Sandy Neck beach we stuck to tradition and found a late lunch at the nearest clam shack.  that happened to be captain frosty’s. I had fried smelts and eric devoured some fried clams.usually these places don’t have too much of a dining area but the Captain’s did. it was clad in old knotty pine inside and the patio was under the cover of a big old oak tree. I absolutely love the signage too! i wish i had some reason to have a sign lettered up just like that for my kitchen. For old salt and little sailors….. !

so i thought it was gonna be a slightly dreary weekend, but it was anything but! we headed to providence on saturday to visit our pal conor. we searched out the provi farmes market where we scarfed down half price scones. following that we enjoyed lunch outside at Seven stars from where the boys took off for some home improvement work, while lady beth and I went thrifting. I did really well…vintage lace dress, coach bag, straw hat, cat print apron, and a LP rack. Beth uncovered a pair of benches which match a piece we already have, so that was definitely the cherry on top.

clockwise from the top left: roses still going strong at seven stars / my thrifting haul / thrifted dress hanging in conor’s garage / sunday night grub. corn pudding, sprouts, and aparagus…with coconut lemon sauce / praying mantis i rescued from the street. lady was just sunning herself in middle of the road!

tandem coffee roasters

19 Sep

a few weekends back we took the long drive up to Portland ME with a couple of friends. I had heard about tandem coffee on the More & Co blog. (they did tandem’s remarkable branding) When we got to Portland we stopped into Seawall and the guys also recommended Tandem, so we knew it was a must.

It did not disappoint! Tandem is located in the East Bayside area of town. Their space is beautiful, i was immediately struck by the Patrick Townsend Orbit chandelier and crisp wood bars. The mood in the shop is super relaxed, like you’ve just popped over to your friend’s house to listen to records and drink coffee. the owners are ex blue bottle folks so they know their stuff for sure. I ordered a malt iced coffee, mostly because I’ve never had one. It was amazing! I cannot wait to go back. and when we do I’m buying beans, how i forgot to grab a bag is beyond me…guess i was really that relaxed there.

fall is here! what a beautiful wknd in new england we had. lots of blue sky, sun, and the return of chilly nights. i love it! On sunday we took a drive up to NH for a little picnic to celebrate the change of season. as we threw down our spread on a picnic table at Wilson farm, we couldn’t stop laughing at the child-like cries of MAAAA! coming from a near by barn. after our meal we investigated the ruckus…to find a little goat heard! mommas, their painfully cute babies, and daddy goats with beards any hipster dude would seriously die for. the owner showed us around and invited us into the barn to meet the vocal bunch. i love how we seem to have a knack for stumbling into remarkable places like this.
