point judith RI

13 Nov

yesterday’s warm weather got me thinking about an late summer trip we took to point judith RI. the weather was just like yesterdays, warm & breezy. we were looking to cruise the coast and maybe stop into the matunuck oyster bar. the bar was jammed when we drove up so we decided to find out seasfood fix down the road a bit. we stumbled upon what i believe to be the best fried fish shack in new england….champlin’s. they had out of this world clam cakes and served their fried fish with little red potatoes rather than the standard french fries. i wandered the docks below the balcony, snapped these pics, as eric waited on our food.

captain frosty’s

following our lounge session on Sandy Neck beach we stuck to tradition and found a late lunch at the nearest clam shack.  that happened to be captain frosty’s. I had fried smelts and eric devoured some fried clams.usually these places don’t have too much of a dining area but the Captain’s did. it was clad in old knotty pine inside and the patio was under the cover of a big old oak tree. I absolutely love the signage too! i wish i had some reason to have a sign lettered up just like that for my kitchen. For old salt and little sailors….. !

it’s a bit of an extended version of Insta Wknd due to the long weekend. i kicked it off with a haircut on friday night followed by a FRY-day party at conor’s and a showing of “the saddest music in the world”.  We celebrated our friends’ joe and missy’s double b-day on Saturday night with drinks and a ridiculous game called “bite the bag”. Sunday found me in NH thrifting with the ladies, and i made a massive new england discovery….Savers! the bigest bestest thrift shop i’ve been to. Umm, $6 Calvin Klein wool blazer amongst many other gems 🙂  then presidents day was relaxed (see miss cleo above!) and ended with us seeing the Portlandia the tour at Berklee! It was pretty kick-ass. J Mascis and Eleanor Friedberger were the surprise special guests. they did not disappoint!

from left to right: chop chop, a haircut for me / rose bakery pancakes! my favorite pancake recipes EVER. also FYI, it’s National Pancake Day a week from today! / frying up some baby brussel sprouts / fried cauliflower and Pretty Things / con-man doubling up! / bite the bag in progress / thrifting. i saw so many ball jars of buttons or marbles…new trend? / an original russel wright clock i scored / cleo catching some z’s and rays / the portlandia tour. fred, carrie, and eleanor.

insta wknd is back! last week I was a little too under the weather to take it on. we had a romantic weekend…a couple of our old SU friends got hitched on Saturday! Hooray! C + L Forever! I wore a beautiful vintage dress, that made me want to do dress-twirls all night. then sunday we watched the game, which was the perfect (like i need one) excuse to bring out the fry-baby. Deep fried brussel sprouts! Thank goodness my stomach is almost back to normal.

the mister all suited up and looking mighty fly (if i do say so) / champs! at the weddin’ / my twirly vintage frock and CK heels / more dress, this time in the church pew / the most stunning flowers from the wedding (yep i brought them home) / deep fried madness. buffalo brussel sprouts w/blue cheese and onion rings. there was also fried cauliflower with fresh made salsa / miss cleo helps me with primping for the wedding.
